Overview

Situated between the Tibetan plateau and the Dhaulagiri ranges, Upper Dolpo is one of the most favored trekking destinations, which offer rugged natural beauty, distinctive people and unique light conditions to explore. Lately discovered (the late eighties), Upper Dolpo trek is a remote and unspoiled area near the Tibetan border of Nepal is fused with the mystical natural beauty which adds the sense of adventure to the trekkers. As you trek on the remote trekking trail of Upper Dolpo, you will get an exceptional opportunity to encounter with the local people and witness customs and traditions, which seems almost similar to the Tibetan. Due to the high passes trail and least developed district, the Upper Dolpo region is rarely visited areas by the travelers in Nepal. Even though Upper Dolpo is filled with beautiful Valleys, Local settlements, interesting places, greenery forests blend with the pines, rhododendrons, oaks and other rare fauna, gigantic mountains, and many more. The major attractions of this legendary trek are mesmerizing Shey Phoksundo Lake, spectacular Landscapes, isolated Villages of Ringmo and ancients’ monasteries. Shey Phoksundo Lake, the deepest lake of Nepal with 145m depth is really amazing to witness.

During their trekking trail, trekkers will get chances to explore centuries-old Buddhist monasteries (which is known as Shey Gompa), soaring peaks, pristine lake, various rare and endangered wildlife and people’s lifestyle of least developed the region. You will also get chances to discover a holy mountain called “Crystal Mountain”, where every year, hundreds of pilgrim’s travelers come here to visit upper Dolpo region and make a circuit of the mountain. Most of the people in this area are speaking Tibetan languages, least people only speak and understand the Nepali language. Dolpo region is an unexplored paradise that rewards its trekkers with its awesome nature with the exceedingly amazing landscapes of the isolated western part of Nepal. Besides this, the place itself resembles one of the Roofs of the Tibet-World, which surpasses the striking views of the people get to behold in Tibet.

The way to Upper Dolpo Trek!

This amazing Upper Dolpo trek begins with the scenic flight to Nepalgunj from Kathmandu. About 45 minutes flight offers green rolling hills below you and take you to the Nepalgunj and you will take next morning flight for Jhupal from where you will begin trekking to Upper Dolpo. As you begin your trekking onwards, you will pass several local villages on the way and reach our destination. After exploration, we will return back to Kathmandu by following a similar route. Most of the trekkers regarded the summer season is the ideal season to explore the Upper Dolpo trek.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Kathmandu (1350 m)


 

As soon as you arrive in Kathmandu, a representative will pick you up and transfer you to the hotel. We’ll visit various religious and historical places in Kathmandu. In the evening, you’ll be served a special dinner that introduces Nepali food culture. Overnight in Kathmandu.


Day 2: Half day Kathmandu Sightseeing and Trek Preparation


 

Today we will manage you half day to visit the major world heritage site in Kathmandu Valley. They are; famous Pashupatinath Temple, Temple of god Shiva, Syambhunath also called Monkey temple popular for the great views of Kathmandu Valley, largest Boudhanath Stupa and royal Kathmandu Durbar Square. In the evening, you will be prepared for all the essential factors for further trekking. Overnight at Kathmandu in the same hotel


Day 3: Flight to Nepalgunj


 

As the morning arises, after having morning breakfast and take a sightseeing flight towards Nepalgunj. The flight offers you the beautiful Ariel views of mountains and local settlements. Have dinner and stay overnight at Nepalgunj.


Day 4: Flight to Jhupal (Dolpo 2320 m), trek to Dunai (2850 m): 2-3 Hrs. walk


 

After morning breakfast, we will again take another flight towards Jhupal which is also known as Dolpo. We begin our trek from Jhupal towards Dunai. We walk through various mountains along with the region of rain shadow area. Have dinner and stay overnight in Dunai.


Day 5: Trek from Dunai to Tarakot (2,537m.)6-7h.


 

Today, after having morning breakfast, we will head towards Tarakot, which is situated at the altitude of 2537m. From Dunai, we walk along the wide route below the Thuli Bheri River and us decent towards Tarakot. The trail goes through the steep landscape and crosses suspension bridge. Have dinner and stay overnight in Tarakot.


Day 6: Trek from Tarakot to Laina Odar (3,370m.)7h.


 

In this day, after having morning breakfast, you will follow Thuli Bheri River and ascend up to Laisicap(2772m) and continue our moderate trail up to Laina Odar. The way to Laina from Laisicap, you can witness one beautiful Chhedhul Gumba and you will get chances to explore it. Have dinner and stay overnight at Laina Odar.


Day 7: Trek from Laina Odar to Serkam (3,756m.)6-7h.


Today, after breakfast, we will continue our trail towards Serkam, at the altitude of 3756m. Today we will follow steep ascend trail by following the bank of Tarap Khola we will reach to Serkam. The trail is steep upward with the narrow and crumbly path where you can see Blue Sheep, Marmots, Yaks, Sheep and goats grazing over there. Serkam also offers us various beautiful mountain views that focus us to capture the moments in the camera. Have dinner and stay overnight at Serkam.


Day 8: Trek from Serkam to Dho-Tarap (3,944m.)7h.


 

Next morning, after breakfast, we will depart Serkam and follow the trail towards Dho-Trap, which is situated at the summit of 3944m. Around 7 hours trek provide you an opportunity to explore small settlement including Dhane, Rechi, Kiptarung, and Rimjo. During your trail, you can view native settlement and encounter with their unique culture and Traditions. Have dinner and stay overnight at Dho Tarap.


Day 9: Day excursion in Dho-Tarap Village.


 

As morning rises, we will have breakfast and we will today explore the Dho-Tarap village, word’s highest human settlement at 4080m, where you will get chances to explore the traditional Buddhist culture and also view the traditional architectural design of buildings. While you explore the village Dho-Tarap, you will really feel that you are traveling to the Primeval era. Beside this Dho- Tarap also offers us a splendid view of Phoksondo Lake. Have dinner and stay overnight at Dho- Tarap.


Day 10: Trek from Dho- Tarap to Chhoila (5,040m.) and Camp Renjonkhola Dovan(4,480m.)7-8h.


 

After you explore the Dho-Tarap, today after early breakfast, you will continue gradual ascend trail To Chhoila Bhanjanj, at the 5040m. which also offer us a magnificent view of Phoksundo Lake and stunning mountain view. Further steep ups and down trail leads us to the Renjo Khola Dovan Camp. Have dinner and stay overnight at Dovan.


Day 10: Trek from Dho- Tarap to Chhoila (5,040m.) and Camp Renjonkhola Dovan(4,480m.)7-8h.


 

After you explore the Dho-Tarap, today after early breakfast, you will continue gradual ascend trail To Chhoila Bhanjanj, at the 5040m. which also offer us a magnificent view of Phoksundo Lake and stunning mountain view. Further steep ups and down trail leads us to the Renjo Khola Dovan Camp. Have dinner and stay overnight at Dovan.


Day 11: Trek from Renjokhola Dovan to Tinje (4,110m.)6h.


 

After having morning breakfast, you will continue trek ahead to Tinje, which is situated at the elevation of the 4110meters. Around 6 hours slight ups and down the trail will lead you to the Tinje. As you reach the Tinje Village, you can stroll around the village and explore the place and encounter with the people of that village. Have dinner and stay overnight in the Tinje village.


Day 12: Trek from Tinje to Shimen (3,885m.)5-6h.


Have an early morning breakfast and continue trek ahead to Shimen, which is situated at the elevation of the 3885meters. Around 5 to 6 hours trek will take you to the Shimen. Have dinner and stay overnight in the Shimen.


Day 13: Trek from Shimen to Khoma (4,210m.)5-6h.


Today, after having morning breakfast, we will continue to trek towards Khoma, which is situated at the elevation of the 4210meters. It takes around 5 to 6 hours ups and down trek and finally reach to the Khoma. Have dinner and stay overnight in the Khoma.


Day 14: Trek from Khoma to Saldang (3,770m.)5-6h.


 

Today, after having morning breakfast, we will continue to trek towards Saldang, which is situated at the elevation of the 3,770meters. It takes around 5 to 6 hours ups and down trek and finally reach to the Saldang. Have dinner and stay overnight in the Saldang.


Day 15: Trek from Saldang to Namung Gumba(4,360m.)4-5h.


 

In this day, after breakfast, we will head continuing our trail towards Namung Gumba from Saldang. Following the Juniper forest, we climb up to the rocky canyon and reach to the flat trail. Further, we ascend and cross challenging Saldang La Pass. From there we can have an eye-catching Mustang Valley and Tibetan chain. As we descend, we will find Namung Gumba, where you can discover Karma Pa Sect monastery of Buddhism. Overnight at Namung.


Day 16: Trek from Namung Gumba to Sela(5,095m.) and Shey Gomba(4,343m.)5-6h.


 

Today, after having morning breakfast, we will continue to trek towards Sela, which is situated at the elevation of the 5,095m meters. As you reach to the sele, you can explore the place over there and again continue trek onwards to Shey Gomba, at the elevation of 4343meters. It takes around 5 to 6 hours ups and down trek and finally reach to the Shey Gomba. Have dinner and stay overnight in the Shey Gomba.


Day 17: Day excursion in Shey Gomba.


 

Today is a rest day at Shey Gomba, and we will explore this tranquil environment of this village. This Gomba is connected to the mountains which are spectacular to view the stunning beauty of Kangirowa Himal. Today after lunch we will discover historic Gompa monastery and Chaiba community. It is also a renowned site in the Dolpo Region. Have dinner and stay overnight at Camp.


Day 18: Trek from Shey Gomba to Nagdalo pass (5,350m.) and Base Camp (4,600m.)6-7m.


 

Early morning, we will have a breakfast and continue trek ahead to Shey Gomba. Today’s trail is physically demanding trail to trek, around 3 to 4 hours trek will take us to the Nagdalo Pass, which is situated at the 5350 meters. Nagdalo Pass will offer you magnificent views of the Himalayas. After exploration, you will return back to Base Camp, at the elevation of the 4600meters. Have dinner and stay overnight at the Camp.


Day 19: Trek from Base Camp to Phoksundo Khola (3,630m.)6-7h.


In this day, we will have morning breakfast and continue trek ahead to Phoksundo Khola, which is situated at the elevation of the 3630 meters. Around 6 to 7-hour trek will take us to the Phoksundo Khola, where you can admire the rugged beauty of the Phoksundo Khola and explore undiscovered small river over there. Have dinner and stay overnight in the nearby Phoksundo Khola.


Day 20: Trek from Phoksundo Khola to Ringmogaun(Phoksundo 3,641m) 3-4h.


 

In this day after breakfast, we will continue our several ups and down trail following along the beautiful vegetation. And then we need to ascend through the forest and slop grass. During your trail, you can view fast flowing river below and continue upstream your trail through the rocks and sticks way and finally reach to the Ringmogaun. Have dinner and stay overnight in the Ringmogaun.


Day 21: Trek from Ringmogaun to Rechi (3,011m.)5-6h.


 

Have an early morning breakfast and continue trek ahead to Rechi, which is situated at the elevation of 3011meters. Around 5 to 6hours trek will take you to the Rechi. As you reach Rechi, you will get chances to explore the Rechi Village. After exploration, we will have dinner and stay overnight in the Rechi village.


Day 22: Trek from Rechi to Suligad (2,080m.)6-7h.


 

In this day after breakfast, we will continue our trail ups and downs along the forest riverbed. And then we need to ascend through the forest and slop grass. During your trail, you can view fast flowing river below and continue upstream your trail through the rocks and sticks way and finally reach to the Suligad. Have dinner and stay overnight at Suligad.


Day 23: Trek from Suligad to Juphal(2,475m.)3h.


 

Today, after breakfast, you will end your pleasing trail here, as you reach to Juphal. You will continue your trail towards Juphal from Suligad, During the way you will following the trail of sloppy roads until you reach to Jhupal. Have dinner and stay overnight in Jhupal.


Day 24: Fly from Juphal to Nepalgunj and Evening Kathmandu.


 

Early in the morning, after breakfast, we prepare for the flight towards Kathmandu via Nepalgunj. As you land at Nepalgunj, again you will take a connecting flight to Kathmandu. We catch the beautiful scenes of various mountains and settlements and surrounding just below you, on the way. In the evening, you will be reaching Kathmandu and you can do some rest in the hotel. Have dinner and stay overnight at Hotel.


Day 25: Rest day in Kathmandu.


 

Today, we’ll have a rest until lunch. you can go shopping for gifts for your family and friends. In the evening, you can enjoy the farewell dinner program and enjoy the completion of the trek. Stay overnight in Kathmandu.


Day 26: Departure to your own destination.


 

Our journey of Round Upper Dolpo Trek comes to an end this day. After an early breakfast and hotel checkout, a representative will help you with your final departure. You will drop to the Airport before 3 hours of your scheduled flight.
