Do You Need Prior Trekking Experience?

Yes, you need prior trekking experience in alpine highlands for the Walangchung Gola trek. This trekking is a long days trekking journey in the remotest part of Nepal and demands good physical fitness too. Before heading towards the adventurous journey, it is recommended to do daily exercise such as running to increase your stamina. The Trekking Route to Walangchung Gola Trek!

The Walangchung Gola trek begins through the scenic drive from Kathmandu valley to Hille. The actual trekking journey commences from Hille to Mangmaya to Khare to Chainpur to Nundhaki to Milke Dhanda to Dhoban to Chirwa to Tortong to Walangchung Gola to Nango Khola to Ghunsa to Kambachen to Lhonak to North Base Camp to Amjillassa to Chirwa to Pathibhara to Taplejung to Illam and ends at Kathmandu valley. These off-the-beaten trekking trails remain undiscovered and unexplored due to which it is a less crowded trekking destination of Nepal. The route to Walangchung Gola passes through several ancient and remotest villages of Nepal. These less modernized antique villages still follow the centuries-old rituals and lifestyle. The houses of these traditional villages have stone walls and roofs.

Before heading towards the trekking journey to Walangchung, we will visit some of the historical, cultural, and popular tourist destinations that lie in Kathmandu valley. Pashupatinath temple, Boudhanath Stupa, Swayambunath temple, and Royal Kathmandu Durbar Square are some of the famous sites of Nepal which are even listed in UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Pashupatinath temple located at the bank of the Bagmati River is the most sacred and popular temple world widely. Hindu devotees from the world visit this temple to worship Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva is considered as the lord of all gods. In this temple, tourists are not allowed to enter from the main gate but you can explore it from the eastern side. Similarly, Boudhanath Stupa is the biggest Buddhist Stupa in entire South Asia which was built in the 5th century. In this stupa, you will see four pairs of eyes of Lord Buddha observing the surrounding. Visiting Swayambunath temple, you will enjoy the panoramic vista of entire Kathmandu valley including the majestic vistas of the snow-capped White Mountains from the top. This temple is popular among tourists as a Monkey Temple. Furthermore, Kathmandu Durbar Square reveals the ancient arts and architecture of Nepal. Exploring this palace, you will see the living goddess of Nepal called “Kumari”.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu Valley and Transfer to the Hotel


 

Upon your arrival at the Kathmandu International Airport, you will be welcomed by one of the representatives of Himalaya Hero Adventure. Then, you will be transferred to the hotel by our private vehicle and hotel check-in. Take rest and get ready for the meeting at the office! Today’s meeting will discuss about the trekking equipment and challenges. You will be introduced with the team members and your trekking guide. Later in the evening, join a welcome dinner in a Nepali restaurant. You will have an opportunity to taste the real taste of Nepal.


Day 2: Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing and Trek Preparation


After having morning breakfast, we will explore UNESCO World Heritage sites of Nepal which lies in the valley. Your trekking guide will facilitate you to visit Pashupatinath temple, Swayambunath temple, Boudhanath stupa, and Kathmandu Durbar Square. These sites are popular among Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims around the world. Exploring these places, you will get an insight of religious importance of Nepal. Also, these places resembles the ancient art and architecture of Nepal including history. Returning from the visit, your trekking guide will check your equipment and if you lack any then, you can get it from Thamel area.

Day 3: Drive from Kathmandu to Hille via Dhankuta


After hotel checkout and morning breakfast, we will head towards Hille via Dhankuta. Driving in our private vehicle will offer you the chance of witness the natural and geographical beauty of Nepal. You will enjoy the vistas of hills and lush green forests while traveling to Hille. Reaching Hille, we will explore the place.

Day 4: Trek from Hille to Mangmaya (1,649 m)


After morning breakfast at the local teahouse, we will trek towards Mangmaya village. The place lies at an elevation of 1,649 meters. Reaching Mangmaya, explore the place and interact with people!

Day 5: Trek from Mangmaya to Khare (2,490 m)


After taking morning breakfast, we will trek towards Khare. The trail passes through the several small yet, attractive ethnic settlements. You will get the insight of nomadic lifestyle of these people while crossing these villages. Reaching Khare, we will explore nearby villages and communicate with local people.

Day 6: Trek from Khare to Chainpur (1,600 m)


After taking morning breakfast, we will commence our trekking journey towards Chainpur. Today’s trail passes through the local market area and hillsides. We will descend downhill to reach Chainpur.

Day 7: Trek from Chainpur to Nundhaki (2,340 m)


Todays’ trek is an uphill trail. Walking through the upward trekking trail, stay hydrated as you might feel the altitude sickness problem. Through, the trails are easy, you need to walk for long hours to reach the destination of each trekking days. Reaching Nundhaki, we will explore nearby places and terraced farmlands. Interacting with local people will provide you the chance to learn their unique culture and also the history of such remote land.

Day 8: Trek from Nundhaki to Milke Dhanda (3,500 m)


After having morning breakfast, we will begin our trekking journey towards Milke Dhanda. Reaching the top of Milke Dhanda which lies at an elevation of 3,500 meters, you will witness the views of Himalayan ranges and surrounding valleys.

Day 9: Trek from Milke Dhanda to Dhoban


After having morning breakfast, we will trek towards Dhoban. Today’s trail passes through the river and hillsides. You will crosses the lush green forest areas to reach Dhoban. Reaching the place, enjoy the surrounding views of nature and its resources.

Day 10: Trek from Dhoban to Chirwa


 

Trekking from Dhoban to Chirwa passes through small yet, beautiful traditional villages of the Hilly region. After taking breakfast, we will commence our trekking journey towards the undeveloped land; Chirwa.

Day 11: Trek from Chirwa to Tortang


 

After having breakfast with our trekking crew and trekking guide, we will walk through the ancient villages, rugged terrains, and forested areas to reach Tortang. Reaching Tortabg, explore the place and learn the culture and lifestyle of locals.

Day 12: Trek from Tortang to Walangchung Gola


Today’s trekking trail takes you to your destination. The trail passes through the small settlements of ethnic communities of the Hilly region. After having breakfast, we will walk towards Walangchung Gola. Take full rest after reaching the place!

Day 13: Exploration Day at Walangchung Gola


Today, after taking breakfast, we will explore nearby villages. Exploring and hiking around the place, we will encounter centuries-old houses and unexploited surroundings. Discover these unexplored remotest lands of Nepal!

Day 14: Trek from Walangchung to Nango Khola


 

After exploring Walangchung Gola, we will continue our trekking journey. Having morning breakfast, we will walk towards Nango Khola. The trail passes through the beautiful rivers.


Day 15: Trek from Nango Khola to Ghunsa (3,340 m) via Nango La Pass (4,820 m)


 

Today’s trail passes through the Nango La Pass which lies at an elevation of 4,820 meters. Some of you might feel the altitude sickness problem while passing the highest point of this trek. It is recommended to share if you feel uneasy to walk ahead! Walking further, you reach Ghunsa. From the top of the pass, you will enjoy the views of mountains and surrounding villages.

Day 16: Rest Day at Ghunsa


 

After taking breakfast, we will explore Ghunsa. Hiking up to nearby places will offer you an opportunity to discover beautiful and mesmerizing sites of nature. We will take proper rest after exploring nearby places.

Day 17: Trek from Ghunsa to Kambachen (4,124 m)


 

The trek from Ghunsa to Kambachen will commence towards a gradual ascending path along the South bank of the Ghunsa Khola. You will cross a boulder-strewn flood plain, Rambuk Kharka on the north side of the river, and waterfalls. The trail passes through loose footing and football-sized rocks to reach Kambachen. The place lies at an elevation of 4,124 meters. Reaching the place, you will encounter Tibetan style houses.

Day 18: Trek from Kambachen to Lhonak (4,780 m)


 

After taking breakfast, we will continue our adventurous journey towards Lhonak which lies at an elevation of 4,780 meters. At the beginning of the trek, the trail passes through the gradual ascend and wide rocky fields up to Ramtang which lies at an elevation of 4,240 meters. Then, you will cross the moraines at north-west of the Kanchenjunga glacier. Reaching Lhonak, you will witness splendid mountainous views!

Day 19: Trek from Lhonak to North Base Camp (4,940 m)


 

Today’s trail ascends gradually across the steep path to reach the North base camp which lies at an elevation of 4,940 meters. The trail follows the moraine at an initial point then, follows the bottom of the valley. You will witness the breathtaking vista of Kanchenjunga peak including many other peaks. You will also the view of Kanchenjunga glacier. Some of you might feel the altitude sickness problem while hiking up to the base camp.

Day 20: Rest at North Base Camp


 

For adding adventure in our trekking journey and adjust our body with higher altitude, we will stay at the base camp. If you wish, we will hike to higher altitude. Take full rest at the camp and remain hydrated throughout the day to escape from altitude health problems.

Night stay in the tented camp. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner Included.


Day 20: Rest at North Base Camp


 

For adding adventure in our trekking journey and adjust our body with higher altitude, we will stay at the base camp. If you wish, we will hike to higher altitude. Take full rest at the camp and remain hydrated throughout the day to escape from altitude health problems.

Night stay in the tented camp. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner Included.


Day 21: Trek from North Base Camp to Ghunsa


 

After taking breakfast at the camp, we will retrace our trek towards Ghunsa. The trail will descend towards Ghunsa. Reaching Ghunsa, take full rest!

Day 22: Trek from Ghunsa to Amjillassa


 

After morning breakfast, we will trek towards Amjillassa. You will encounter people following the mixed Tibetan Buddhist culture and tradition while interacting with the local people. Reaching Amjillassa, explore the place!

Day 23: Trek from Amjillassa to Chirwa


After taking breakfast, we will trek towards Chirwa. The trail follows through the descending path to reach Chirwa.

Day 24: Trek from Chirwa to Pathibhara


 

After taking breakfast, we will commence our trekking journey in an early morning. Pathibhara is famous for the ancient temple. Every year, Hindu pilgrims around the nation visit the Pathibhara temple. Exploring around the place, you will encounter multi-color rhododendron flowers.

Day 25: Trek from Pathibhara to Taplejung (1,798 m)


 

After taking breakfast, we will move towards Taplejung. You will pass through the beautiful places to reach Taplejung. Exploring around the place offers you the beautiful views of mountains and landscapes.

Day 26: Trek from Taplejung to Illam


 

Today’s trail takes you one of the famous place of Nepal. Illam is popular for tea farm. The area of tea farm will take your heart away. Reaching Illam, you will witness the mesmerizing views of surroundings and hills.

Day 27: Drive from Illam to Kathmandu valley via Biratnagar


 

After taking breakfast, we will drive to Kathmandu valley via Biratnagar. Biratnagar is a plain land. The next day, we will drive to Kathmandu valley re-witness the breathtaking sceneries of nature. After arriving at the hotel in Kathmandu and hotel check-in, either take rest or go for shopping around the Thamel area.

Night stay in the hotel. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner Included.


Day 28: Final Departure


 

Before three hours of your flight schedule, you will be transferred to the Kathmandu International Airport. Have a safe flight ahead!
